Christian Mayne

DJ Profile

I am a highly experienced and versatile DJ with over 20 years of fulltime professional experience, holding residencies in some of the UKs largest nightclubs, a DJ of the Year award and having developed several leading clubbing brands.

I am highly professional and knowledgeable,  an excellent “crowd reader”, have very good technical / mixing skills and always receive excellent reviews from clients for my work. These days, my preferred DJ style is fun, dancefloor bangers but I’m able to accommodate most music styles, some to a specialist level. I’m a confident microphone performer, through both my radio and ceilidh calling work, and can provide as much or as little microphone work as required

I now typically provide my DJ services in association with my ceilidh bands in the South West to Wedding and Corporate clents, but I am able to consider other work if the diary aligns – do feel free to get in touch.

Selected Timeline

  • 1987: Began DJing in Local nightclubs (primarily Ronelles, Cambridge) at 16 years of age whilst still at school (times were different then). Nicknamed “Crucial Chris” by the old hands, a nickname that old friends have teased me with ever since.
  • 1988: Turned Professional
  • 1990: Worked with Cambridge University Students Union to develop one of the UK’s first major Student club Nights at Cinderellas Rockerfellas, Cambridge. (This is why Cambridge University Students always knew Ballare / Fifth Avenue as “Cindies”).
  • 1990: Worked with CCR and Radio Cracker on some of the UKs earliest Radio RSLs. Presented the CCR daily afternoon Magazine format program “Reality Checkpoint” and the Radio Cracker Drivetime slot, as well as a Specialist weekly funk and rare groove show
  • 1996: Worked with Anglia Polytechnic University to develop their first student night at Chicago Rock Cafe, Cambridge. A huge success attracting 1000 students weekly.

  • 1999: Started a new independant clubnight, “Magic Mondays”, at The Fez Club in Cambridge.

  • 2002: Fat Poppadaddys launches in Oxford and Lincoln
  • 2003: Second Cambridge Club Night – Fat Poppadaddys Presisential Suite – a night of Swinging Jazz, Northern Soul Stompers, Funk and Reggae. Possibly the funniest night ever to DJ, I’ve been considering a reboot (https://www.thepresidentialsuite.co.uk/ – fancy a go in your venue for almost no money? Give me a shout!)
  • 2003: Fat Poppadaddys launches in London, Leicester, Bristol, Brighton, Bath and Portsmouth.
